McCalls 5966 - Review

What do you get when you cross a tablecloth with a bedsheet?  Fabulousness, that's what.

I like a pattern that is what it says it is...easy. The only tricky parts to this pattern were putting in a zipper - not that hard, just a little fiddly, and doing the set-in sleeves that were too small to go around the 'free-arm' part of my sewing machine.  Again, not hard, just a bit fiddly. The end result is pretty dang cute - and slightly Colonial.

The only real complaint I have is that this dress runs large.  I made a size 6  and the bodice is quite large - especially in the back.  I happened to have a clip thingy that I bought for something else, so I clipped it on the back to take up the slack.
If I decide to leave the clippy thing, I'll cover up the ugly white elastic. I am considering sewing some elastic right onto the seam allowance on the inside.  What do you think?

Because the dress is running large, the neckline is a bit awkward - just a tad too low.  I plan on making a little inset with some leftover border from the petticoat I made (out of a Goodwill find - a king size sheet (the inset in the picture is just a scrap of white fabric I tucked in)).  The fabric for the dress itself was a clearance tablecloth from JoAnn's.
