A Day at the Dunes?

Well, I still think it looks better from a distance. So I'll walk you up gradually.

Yes, I added a hint of a lake (sorry Sue, no canoe)...
I'm not sure I like the edge of the 'sand'...I think the color is a bit pink. I may or may not change it.
We'll see.

Backpedaling

I found that I just couldn't live with my road.  It wasn't taking me where I wanted to go.  So I painted over it.  I tried a couple of other variations - but wasn't in love with with them either.  So I painted over them too.  Am I done?  Hmm...don't know - the bottom of the painting looks a bit blank.  I may give it another whirl...or two before I call it finished.

Step Back 10 Feet and Squint

I have to say, I had a lot of fun creating this week's Pinterest inspired challenge item.  Here's the lovely inspiration:
Pinned Image
This item is no longer available...

...and here is mine:
Oops!
(Debbie attempts to pull a Keira style misdirection)

Sorry...here's mine:
I call it:
From 10 Feet Away it Looks Pretty Good! Especially If You Squint!

From 5 feet it's still okay (squint harder!).

Yeah. Sigh.  My alternate title for this piece is:
Don't Quit Your Day Job
Sadly I totally flubbed the perspective on the road - but in my defense, I usually draw with a pencil (and get to erase mistakes)...this was all done freehand with a paintbrush.

Can I at least get a few points for mixing my own colours?

Obliviate

I had a couple of spare 12x12 canvases...so I got busy and made a couple more Harry Potter inspired 'art' pieces.

I should get extra points for having to use kindergarten scissors all week.
This one isn't quite dry, but I wanted to take a picture before I forgot.

Accio Firebolt

I just finished the companion piece to Expecto Patronum.  Instead of orange, I used Turquoise Blue, other than that, the process is the same (except that I had to free-hand the picture of the broom).

Don't Tell Deb

...that I took until now to frame the art she made me for my birthday.

I used spray glue to attach the fabric to cardboard. Then I trimmed the fabric and glued the edge down so it won't fray.

I had a custom piece of matting made that was brown linen and yellow cotton. It was wrong and the matting fit the glass and not the frame. Double sided tape fixed that, thank you!

I like the way it fits the frame. And that it looks great on the wall!

Artsy

I have actually done quite a bit of sewing and other craftiness lately...but since most of the crap awesomeness is going to be Christmas presents, I can't really show any pictures for a few weeks.

Here's something I can show you:

Keira and I had a ton of fun doing backgrounds on canvas. Keira used different colors, but the principle is the same - choose two or three or four colors of paint and squirt some directly on the canvas, then spread with a dry paintbrush - blending a bit as you go.

I found these stencils at Michael's in the art aisle in the drafting supplies.  Using my 40% coupon they ended up only costing two or three bucks - which is an even better steal when you realize that there are TWO complete sets.  One set of 3/4 inch and one set of 1 inch both have complete upper and lower case and numbers!

It all started with a t-shirt.

I've always had a thing for this vintage Boeing logo.
So much so that I decided it would make a great Father's Day
gift for a certain Boeing engineer that I happen to be married to.
